What makes someone DRIVEN?
Drive doesn’t come through external rewards or forced action. It is all about internal motivation which is inspired action.
Many researchers have tried to crack the code of DRIVE. Reason? Internally motivated people are more determined and more likely to produce better results with lesser efforts.
Self-determination theory gives you 3 factors that contribute to drive:
1. Autonomy – You need to be in charge of your own goals, choices, and behaviors
2. Competence – You need to feel like you have the skills, and efficiency to deal with your environment
3. Connection – You need to feel like you belong in a social group that values you, have a sense of inclusion and relatedness
The next time you want yourself or your team to be DRIVEN, check whether there is perceived autonomy, competence, and connection.
