As an introvert, it bothers me that the corporate world is designed for extroverts. Extroverts are consistently perceived as better leaders, more deserving of hiring and promotion. A 2006 Survey mentioned in Harvard Business Review quotes that 65% of senior executives find introversion as a barrier to leadership. 65%!
Then there’s all these articles glorifying extroverts, and advising introverts to ACT more extroverted.
- Maybe introverts make better leaders or maybe not. It depends on a lot of factors. My point is that you don’t have to change your personality type JUST to be perceived as a better leader. Celebrate what you bring to the table and don’t let anyone else take your seat.
