Being Vs. Doing

Consider a situation where you were putting in a lot of thought and energy into a task and you had to struggle to JUST BE DONE with it. Consider another time when you were being yourself and passionately doing something where you lost track of time and work didn’t feel like work.

The former task is grueling and the latter is gratifying.

Taoism, an Eastern philosophy, emphasizes the importance of BEING rather than DOING. Simply BEING in your natural element during a task produces way better results than consciously DOING something and struggling.

So how do you figure out the tasks where you’re simply BEING? Find tasks that leverage your strengths and inspire you to be yourself. Being doesn’t mean not acting; it means effortless action. Choose effortless action over struggle. Choose BEING over DOING.
