Don’t Let the Devices Take Over

In this age of distractions and high-speed digital living, one of the quickest ways to reset and refresh your mind is to step back from technology.

Your girl has been experimenting 😉
Living without modern technology, even temporarily, taught me valuable lessons.
Don’t let devices control you.
Don’t let the machines take over.

You Want a Digital Detox Too? I got you! 😉

1. Go Old School (Grayscale) with Your Phone – My #1 Rule!!

Switch your phone to grayscale mode. Delete unnecessary apps and set screen time limits. If you must engage in meaningful viewing, like a video call with a loved one, switch back to color temporarily. Stay in grayscale mode otherwise, especially when you tend to doomscroll!

2. Paper, Pen, and Headphones!

Whenever possible, revert to using paper and pen for note-taking and brainstorming. Incorporate whiteboards for planning and ideation sessions. Invest in a good pair of wireless headphones. They can help you stay connected while freeing you from the tether of screens. Get your steps in.

3. Opt for Listening Mode vs Viewing

When appropriate, switch to listening mode. Use audiobooks, podcasts, and voice notes to absorb information instead of binging on Netflix and constantly looking at a screen. Apply the same for meetings too—does every meeting have to be a video meeting? 😩

Give your eyes a rest from overstimulation.

Be the person who
– listens to stories
– smells the roses
– truly tastes their food, and
– touches the textures of life
when everyone else has their noses buried in their phones.

Managers, come on, break from Zoom once in a while!

– More face-to-face whiteboard brainstorming meetings when possible
– More audio-based team calls and encourage all to walk and talk
– Mandatory no-video Fridays for meetings

Find your flow, then don’t let go! 🙂
