How Employees AND Employers benefit from a Flow State

Sam enjoys painting landscapes in oil and usually completes a masterpiece in 45 days. One day, a client challenges them to complete a piece in only 30 days.

Now, Sam’s driven and loves the challenge, so they immediately get to work with EXTREME FOCUS leading to a Flow State. But – a few hours later the client forces Sam to use watercolors instead of oil paints, which isn’t Sam’s expertise or interest. So, that focus mode is now punctured. The painting’s ready on time but is far from a masterpiece. Both the client and Sam are disappointed.

Moral of the story: Everyone benefits when employees work in their flow state. If employees feel

  1. driven to do a task that’s challenging (not overwhelming) and
  2. they can use their strengths and be themselves while they work

you get happy employees and happy employers.
