Bringing your authentic self to work each day is not easy, as I explained in my last video.
So what can leaders and managers do to help? Ensure all employees’ authentic selves are clearly valued, preserved and included in the workflow, and not just of a few. You must ACT and not just speak inclusiveness.
And what can employees do to help? Those of you who are ready, could gradually lose your inhibitions and show up more authentically each day. Small steps lead to big changes. This will encourage other employees, especially minorities, to follow suit.
Being authentic at work isn’t a switch on-off type situation. Changing an organization’s culture takes a lot of time, effort, and some backward steps. What matters ultimately is – are we gradually shifting forward towards becoming a more inclusive organization, or not.
