You know the drill!
If you have a team call on a Friday, you all got to ask each other the question, how was your week?
And typically, you all are trying to grab the trophy of whose week was the hardest and the toughest or the craziest.
When did overworking become so acceptable and commonplace at work so it becomes almost like bragging?
Studies have proven over time that working long hard hours doesn’t just lead to mental decline, it also increases the risk of weight gain and drinking habits and smoking habits.
So why do we do it?
“Two reasons.”
1. You’re not being productive enough so you’re working harder when you can find ways to work smarter.
2. You do not have boundaries.
So, it all boils down to one personal question.
When you turn 70 and you look back at your 40-50 years of work, do you want to see a life that is filled with exhaustion and struggle and just mindless hustle?
Or do you want to see a life that is filled with joy and smiles and deep meaningful engaging work?
Because..
Hey, you only have limited time and limited energy.
If you’re taking all of that and putting it into the bucket of work, what are you going to put into the bucket of family and yourself?
So, I’ll go back to my two points.
“Either increase your productivity by getting into flow and working smarter not harder. And set boundaries.”
Don’t let your work spill into the rest of your life. You are not just your work. This is your reminder that hustling yourself into the ground is not worth it.
Prioritize your mental health at work and take back control of your life.
