Will Power Is NOT The Solution

‘You can do anything if you have the willpower for it.’

Motivational gurus talk about willpower as if it’s a magic formula to achieve anything you want, but it’s so outdated and not rooted in science.

There was a psychology experiment conducted in 1996 which shared that willpower is a depletable resource, which means that your willpower decreases every time you make a tough choice or you are forced to do something.

So, for example, if I present your favorite food and food that you hate, and I made you eat the food that you hate, you’re using a little bit of your willpower in order to go through that. After that, if I present a puzzle for you to solve, which is difficult and challenging, you are more likely to give up because you don’t have enough willpower to keep going.

So stop relying on willpower to get what you need to get done. Instead, find better and smarter ways to build good habits and sustainable lifestyle to take you where you want to go.
